Fall Worship Theme: BASIC

Posted by Erik Hall on

In just two short weeks we will launch our Fall worship theme!

BASIC

Reclaim the simple, full, and beautiful journey of the church that is described in Scripture

Francis Chan challenges; “if all I had was the Bible…   and I was to read this book and start a ‘church’…   what would it look like? Would it look like the thing we have built here and all refer to as church? Or would it look radically different?” Join us for BASIC, an inspiring, thought-provoking, and sometimes controversial worship theme exploring and rediscovering who we are as the church by exploring the basic truths Scriptures. Based on the series BASIC by Francis Chan.

09/09/2018:          More Than Awesome:               Deuteronomy 10:12-22

Sure, God is graceful…   and Jesus is our Friend…   but God IS the all-powerful creator of the universe. When we have a healthy understanding of God, our awe and respect will have real qualities of fear. It is only through this intense experience that we can really hear the Good News that God loves us and we have nothing to fear.

09/16/2018:           Follow Means Follow:              Matthew 7:21-27

Following Jesus doesn’t mean learning, teaching, talking, or planning about it. It means doing and practicing it. It is the only way to live the Christian life of faith.

09/30/2018:          Powered By The Spirit              John 14:15-21

The Holy Spirit is God continuing promise to be present with us in power and truth and light. The Spirit works in and through US for God’s great purposes and we get to be a part of it. When we try to ‘go it alone’ we don’t get the lives or the church God has planned for us.

10/07/2018:           Doing Life Together:                  1 Peter 2:4-10

We are in this together…   a people chosen by God. God has made it such that God’s mercy and power and grace are reflected by us to the world through our daily faith-living. We are chosen to bring light to the darkness.

10/14/2018:            Sound Teaching:                         2 Timothy 4:1-4

Our lives are not our own. We are called to live, example, and pass-on the principles and practices that support to a strong faith and a vibrant and vital community. In a world where people actively seek only those voices of teachers that tell them what they want to hear…   the church is there to proclaim the truth, even when its hard and unpopular to hear.

10/21/2018:            Praying For Life:                         Matthew 6:9-13

We read and say The Lord’s Prayer often…   but do we really know what we are asking? Do our prayers reflect the same passion and priorities of that prayer Jesus taught us? What would it mean for our lives and the church if we kicked our prayer life up a couple of notches?

10/28/2018:           A Greater Love:                            1 Corinthians 10:14-17

In Jesus… God made a new promise: because of God’s love and grace proven in Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice, humankind would be judged not on whether they are perfect (which no one is) but on their faith and love for Jesus (which anyone can have). This is celebrated in the bread and cup of Holy Communion. It’s called ‘communion’ because we share together this hope…   we share together this salvation…   we share together this identity with Christ: we are one body.
